Delmira Agustini
Delmira Agustini was born on October 24, 1886, in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her poems work boldly with themes of sensuality and passion. Delmira is the author of several collections, including El rosarío del Eros [Eros’s Rosary] (1924); Los Cálices Vacíos [Empty Chalices] (1913); Cantos de la Mañana [Morning Songs] (Orsini Bertani, 1910); and El Libro Blanco [The White Book] (Orsini Bertani, 1907). Her Obras completas [Complete Works] were also published in 1924. The Selected Poetry of Delmira Agustini: Poetics of Eros (Southern Illinois University Press, 2003), translated by Alejandro Cáceres Joseph, is the most comprehensive collection on the poet published in English.
Delmira Agustini died on July 6, 1914, in Montevideo.
